Capturing Colour With Lucy Kent

lucy - Capturing Colour With Lucy Kent

Light and travel. Colour and texture. Integral to our design process and the inspiration and motivation of our new favourite artist… Lucy Kent.

Lucy initially trained in portraiture at the Charles H Cecil Studios in Florence and then continued on to do fine art in London. Her subject matter has been varied, abstract and figurative but the fundamental theme for her inspired use of colour and her sweeping brush strokes seems to be in the outside world.

Lucy’s new solo show is filled with works from her travels, views and landscapes, seen with a keen eye. The rapacity with which she paints is clear from the thick oil layers… this speed representing the fleeting movement of time or even sudden changes to the weather.

The magic golden hours, of dawn and dusk, don’t wait around, even for artists. The outside will not sit patiently and wait for you to finish. The paintings change as the surroundings do and this energy and reality of time is the essence of her work and its integrity.

Looking at Lucy’s archives, we can’t help but imagine her waking early, dressing in a Juliet Dunn kaftan (of course!), picking up her paints and setting off in search of that special vantage point for the day, rather nomadic and rather wonderful.
